Nick Sirianni puts blame on offense: 'Worst offensive performance of season'

Nick Sirianni is putting Sunday's ugly 20-10 loss to the Saints on the offense.

"I would say it's our worst offensive performance," Sirianni told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Tuesday. "I thought our special teams did a lot of good things. I thought the defense played a very good game. I thought it was our worst offensive performance, but this is a team game. When one unit is down we all are down. And so, we didn't coach good enough on offense. We didn't put the guys in position to make enough plays and we didn't execute. It's always going to come down to that. But you always got to look at yourself in the mirror first.

"It's a good process to be able to drag—you don't want to have to drag yourself through the mud—but dragging yourself through the mud, getting dirty with it, beat yourself up with it, because that's how you get better from it. But then move on and have that dog mentality from it."

While the Eagles finished the game with 313 yards, the same as the Saints, they lost the time of possession battle 37:04 to 22:56, which was most evident during a first half dominated by New Orleans.

"The best way to explain the time of possession is our lack of possessing the football on offense," Sirianni said. "Now, there's a lot that goes into that first drive. They gave us their best punch there on offense and then our defense buttoned up the rest of the game. To have a nine minute drive, that's a long drive to start the game off and that contributes to that off whack time of possession. But it's the three and outs that really, really contribute to that."

The Eagles now must beat the Giants on Sunday to clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Sirianni, when asked about the availability of Jalen Hurts—who has missed the last two games (both losses) with a shoulder injury—said, "If Jalen is ready to play health wise, then we'll play him. Especially seeing yesterday and Damar [Hamlin] and everything like that. We've got to think of our players safety first and foremost every single time. Regardless of the circumstances of this is a must win or this has to happen here. That will always, always be my first requirement is if the player is healthy enough to play and we don't put him at risk to put his body in danger because we perceive it to be a must win."
