One of the biggest NFL storylines in 2023 has, for whatever reason, been the "tush push" play, more recently referred to as the "brotherly shove" around Philadelphia.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was brutally honest about the play following his team's win over the Rams on Sunday, saying, "Quite frankly, they [other teams] can't do it like we can."
Early on Sunday morning, ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted that the NFL and the NFLPA plan to "study the injury data" from the play, but nothing will change for 2023 in regards to the play.
According to ESPN's Tim McManus, the Eagles—heading into Week 5—have a 92-percent success rate using the play over 37 attempts since 2022, while the rest of the NFL has an 81-percent success rate.
The Eagles used the "brotherly shove" four times on Sunday against the Rams, as they improved to 5-0.
Last week, Eagles' offensive lineman and former rugby player Jordan Mailata went on a rant on 94WIP.
"I think it's bulls**t, pardon my language," Mailata told Ike Reese, Hugh Douglas, and Eliot Shorr-Parks on Monday's 94WIP Player Lounge Show live from Chickie's & Pete's in South Philadelphia, in reference to the "brotherly shove" play being called a rugby play.
"I just think that rugby is much tougher than a QB sneak, in my opinion. To call it a rugby play, I think you're doing a disservice to the sport and the players that play rugby. I'm not for that just because of my history, just because rugby is a tough sport man...Don't get me started when they compare it to a scrum. What are we talking about? This is ridiculous."
