Seltzer: 'Nick Sirianni deserves more credit, he is Eagles' next Andy Reid'

James Seltzer, filling in for Joe DeCamara, opened Friday's 94WIP Morning Show praising Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni.

Seltzer does not believe that Sirianni gets the credit he deserves for the Eagles' turn around and success over the last couple of seasons.

"I think the third part of that trio [Jalen Hurts, Howie Roseman, and Nick Sirianni] that makes the Eagles go has not gotten nearly enough credit for what this team is and what it is going to be," Seltzer said. "And that of course, is Nick Sirianni. I think that Nick Sirianni—we always talk about Jalen and how important he is and it's always like, 'Oh yeah and Nick.'

"Like Nick is right there with Jalen in terms of making this thing run. This whole culture that this guy has built is special. And everyone is concerned about the loss of the coordinator, well you know what, I'm not. Because I feel like this guy has put together a program, a culture, a set up where I think this thing is going to run for years. I think that Nick Sirianni, we're going to look back in a decade and be like, oh he was our next Andy Reid. Our next great Eagles coach for a long time. I don't think we give Nick Sirianni enough credit for how big a part of this whole thing he is."

Sirianni, 42, is entering his third season as the Eagles' head coach. After a 9-8 season which resulted in a first-round playoff loss to the eventual Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Sirianni led Philadelphia to a very impressive 14-3 campaign last season which, of course, resulted in a devastating three-point Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

To Seltzer's point, Eagles ascending quarterback Jalen Hurts was the NFL's MVP runner up in 2022 and was rewarded this offseason with a new massive $255 million contract. Eagles GM Howie Roseman was named Executive of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America and constantly touted by football fans and media.

Sirianni finished just fifth in the voting for NFL head coach of the year and has largely flown under the radar, even in Philadelphia.

NFL analyst and frequent 94WIP guest Ross Tucker recently ranked Sirianni as the fifth best head coach in all of the NFL, but even DeCamara and Jon Ritchie thought that ranking was too high.

In 2023, while the offensive personnel looks mostly the same for the Eagles, Sirianni will face new challenges like first-year coordinators on both sides of the ball, the loss of multiple key defensive players and high expectations for many defensive rookies and second-year guys, and the NFL's literal toughest schedule based on combined opponent 2022 win percentage.
