Nick Sirianni says he still has not made a decision about playing Saquon Barkley and the starters on Sunday in Week, as Barkley is just 101 rushing yards away from breaking Eric Dickerson's single-season record of 2,105 yards.
"Everything is taken into account," Sirianni said on Tuesday's 94WIP Morning Show. "I'm going to do always do what's best for the team and the individuals going for that. I'm still thinking through a little bit of this too...Take a lot into account. What's the best thing for the team and then also what's the best things for the individuals going for the record?"
Sirianni spoke about a situation in 2021—his first season as Eagles' head coach—when he made the decision to rest Jalen Hurts and many starters in a meaningless Week 18 game, but play DeVonta Smith who broke DeSean Jackson's franchise rookie record for receiving yards in a season with 916.
"If you think back a couple of years ago to 2021, Smitty was going for the rookie receiver record," Sirianni explained. "Everybody else was resting, but we wanted for everyone else—whatever it was—we didn't play some other guys in that game, but we went and got him that record. Every situation is a little different. Not saying one way or the other...or even that I made a decision yet."
Sirianni says he will talk to "everybody" before making his decision, including general manager Howie Roseman and owner Jeffrey Lurie.
"I'll talk to our staff, I'll talk to the players, I'll talk to Howie, I'll take to Mr. Lurie. I'll talk to everybody to try and make sure I'm making the best decision for our football."
