Joe Giglio believe the Philadelphia Eagles have gotten marginally better in free-agency this offseason, but ultimately is "not satisfied" by the additions Howie Roseman has made so far.
"While they've gotten a little bit better than were at the end of last season, that's not a very high bar because they weren't a very good football at the end of the season," Giglio said on Monday's 94WIP Midday Show with Hugh Douglas. "Then I thought about it, really, what have they done so far?
"They brough in a pass rusher [in Bryce Huff], but he's been a part time pass rusher in his career. They've brought in a defensive back, who I like in Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, but he's been injured a lot the last couple of years. They brought in linebacker Devin White, who was once a high pick, but he hasn't been very good the last couple of years."
The Eagles signed star running back Saquon Barkley to a three-year deal worth up to $46.75 million and $26 million guaranteed, one of the franchise's biggest free-agent signings ever.
However, as Giglio points out, in 2023 Barkley rushed for 962 in 14 games with the Giants, 3.9 yards per attempt. Eagles running back D'Andre Swift rushed for 1,049 yards in 16 games on 4.6 yards per attempt.
"Obviously, Saquon Barkley is the biggest name and he's a good player, but they got a lot of production out of the running back last year," Giglio said. "And the guy they brought in actually had worse numbers, yards per carry, than D'Andre Swift.
"My point is, they've gotten a little bit better, but they've also lost Jason Kelce. They lost Fletcher Cox to retirement. I'm not satisfied. I don't think they have done enough. I'm not satisfied with the offseason as is."
Jody McDonald, filling in for Jon Ritchie on last Wednesday's 94WIP Morning Show, echoed similar sentiment calling the Eagles' offseason "underwhelming" and specifically criticizing the Bryce Huff signing.
The Eagles currently have eight picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, including the No. 22 overall selection and two second-rounders. However, Eliot Shorr-Parks believes the Eagles' 2024 roster is pretty much set.
"This is probably the roster we're going to see," Shorr-Parks said on Monday's 94WIP Morning Show. "For the most part, this is the roster."
Eagles GM Howie Roseman is expected to speak to the media today around 12pm E.T. from the NFL owners meetings in Orlando.
