Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie reacted on Friday morning to the Philadelphia Eagles' first-round draft picks of DT Jalen Carter and pass rusher Nolan Smith, both out of Georgia.
Joe DeCamara: "Incredible to get Jalen Carter. This is like the ultimate risk reward pick. I don't know [if it will work out]. I'll be candid. What I think is, I don't know. He's an incredible talent. But there were a number of off field issues. Let's not kid ourselves after Markelle Fultz and Ben Simmons. What you bring to the table with your heart, with your brain, matters a lot. One thing that I loved…I really really really did want the Eagles to focus on defense. My mindset was defense defense defense and more defense. And at this point they're two for two in that regard."
Jon Ritchie: "I felt like last night couldn't have gone better. I thought that yesterday was further proof that Howie's got us. He knows how to get this done. I am certain they were targeting Jalen Carter from the get go. He plays the defensive tackle position like a tiny little corner! The way this guy bends his knees, the side to side agility where he just beats these offensive lineman and it's exactly what we needed. This couldn't have worked out better. If you evaluate these players as strictly players it was him and Bijan Robinson at the top of this draft for me."
