Didinger: 'Eagles need to re-evaluate passing game concepts'
Ray Didinger says the Philadelphia Eagles may need to sit down and re-evaluate their passing game concepts.
"27 drop backs and he got sacked seven times," Didinger said of Jalen Hurts on Monday's 94WIP Morning Show with Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie. "The responsibility is two-fold. The offensive line didn't play as good as it is capable of...but the other part of it is the quarterback. He's always been a hold-the-ball too long kind of guy.
"This is really a problem, you're seeing it now for sure...I really do think it might be time for Jalen and Nick and Kellen Moore to have a little sit down this week and just do a re-evaluation of their passing concepts right now. Because there has to be a component of quick look, quick release, get the ball out of the hands in a hurry, short slants, that kind of stuff. I'm sure they're in the playbook but they have to be re-visited.
"The passing plays are just too slow to develop and Jalen has not had much success throwing the ball down the field in awhile. My buddy Reuben Frank, who does a really good job in statistics...said Jalen Hurts has zero completions of 35 or more yards in the last seven games."
Hurts—who suffered a knee injury, but stayed in the game and played through it—was 15-20 with 128 yards passing in the snow, plus another 70 yards on seven carries and a touchdown on the ground in a 28-22 NFC Divisional Round win over the Rams on Sunday, advancing to the NFC Championship Game for the second time in three years.
Didinger says if Hurts has a sprained MCL, he would be worried "a lot" about him.
