Eagles LB Devin White out for Week 1
First-year Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Devin White is officially listed as out for Friday night's Week 1 game in Brazil against the Packers.
White, 26, will not travel with the team and miss the game due to an ankle injury, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
According to McLane, White lost the starting job to Nakobe Dean before this injury and his role on defense was unclear.
The Eagle signed White to a one-year deal worth up to $7.5 million this offseason.
White, a former fifth overall pick in 2019 out of LSU, has spent his five NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Bucs, helping them win a Super Bowl in 2020. During those three playoff games in 2020, White had two interceptions and two forced fumbles, while recording 38.0 combined tackles.
During the 2020 regular season, White recorded a career-high 140 combined tackles and a career-high 9.0 sacks, and was named to the NFL's second-team All-Pro.
In 2021, White was named to the Pro Bowl after another stellar year.
After not receiving a new contract this past offseason, White was not granted a trade he requested and played in 2023 under his fifth-year option.
In 14 games last season, White battled through injuries. He finished the season with 83 combined tackles, two interceptions, 2.5 sacks, and six passes defended.
In the Bucs' NFC Divisional playoff loss to the Lions, White was seemingly benched playing in just 14 snaps. After the loss, White lashed out at Bucs fans on X responding to Patrick Queen defending him, "They don't know what special coverage is brudda that's why I don't respond to these dumb ass fans I did my job get 3 over the top ! Take anything that cross my face I love you 6."
Pro Football Focus has graded White as one of the league's worst linebackers.
