Howard Eskin and Jon Ritchie got into a heated debate on Thursday's 94WIP Morning Show regarding the Eagles' willingness to run the football.
Eskin, correctly, pointed out that the Eagles are 5th in the NFL in total rushing attempts (367). D'Andre Swift is ninth in the NFL with 167 rushing attempts.
However, against the 49ers Swift had just six carries and Eagles' running backs totaled just nine carries, while Hurts dropped back 45 times and ran it seven times (not including three Marcus Mariota drop backs).
Eskin: "I'm so sick and tired of hearing run the ball!"
Ritchie: "They didn't run the ball enough the last game!"
Eskin: "They're not running it well, that's a valid point. They're not running it well, not that they're not running it.
"You can't kick field goals against the San Francisco. We weren't complaining when they were moving the ball up and down the field for two drives. What they didn't do, was score in the red zone. They are running the ball enough."
Ritchie: 48 drop backs, 11 carries by running backs, that's not running the ball enough."
Eskin: Jon, you are an idiot!" Eskin said. "They were down so many points, that number is so skewed. When you use that number it's ridiculous, because it makes no sense."
Ritchie: "Yeah, 11 carries by running backs is ridiculous," Ritchie said. "They won't be down if they run the ball...It wasn't a blow out until the end of the third quarter."
