Ritchie: Jalen Hurts calling Wink Martindale is 'smart'

Jon Ritchie does not understand how anyone would have a problem with Jalen Hurts calling former New York Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale following last season's Eagles-Giants Week 18 game.

"How is this a problem for people?" Ritchie asked on Thursday. "Holy cow. This is smart…I think it's really smart."

The story that Hurts called Martindale to pick his brain after Philadelphia's 27-10 loss to the Giants in Week 18 last year was in Tim McManus' ESPN.com article detailing the Hurts-Nick Sirianni relationship divide last year. Martindale parted ways with the Giants three days after the regular season finale.

"I've been doing this for 40 years and it's the first time I've had an opposing QB call me up...It shows you what kind of pro he really is," Martindale told ESPN.com.

Hurts was asked about the report before Wednesday's practice and asked why this is relevant now.
