It was billed as the game of the year, and boy did it live up to the hype.
The Eagles emerged victorious over the Cowboys on Sunday evening, 28-23, but it wasn't easy and there are still a lot of questions about this team that sits atop the NFC at 8-1 heading into the bye week.
Here is three big takeaways from the Eagles' eighth win of the season as well as the instant reactions from all of the hosts at WIP:
1. Jalen Hurts's best game since Super Bowl 57
Hurts was great last week vs Washington, but his performance against the Cowboys was his best of the season.
He didn't commit a turnover for the first time since Week 4 and averaged 9.0 yards per attempt against a defense that entered the week ranked fourth in the NFL against the pass.
The bye week couldn't come at a better time as the questions about his knee begin to mount, but beating the Cowboys takes a lot of pressure off heading into the toughest five-game stretch of the schedule.
Hurts has been maddeningly inconsistent this season, but stepping up in the biggest game of the year when he had to carry the team is a good sign for things to come.
2. The pass defense is a concern
We started with the good, now it is time for the bad. The pass defense has struggled all season and it almost cost them another win on Sunday.
In 20 games last season, the Eagles defense allowed 300 passing yards just once and ranked first in net yards per pass attempt in the league.
However, this year the defense has yielded 300+ passing yards four times through nine games.
There aren't any easy answers either. The pass rush did rack up a decent amount of pressures against Dak Prescott, but struggled to get home until the final minutes and the coverage, especially over the middle has been non-existent all year.
Sean Desai has an extra week to prepare for Patrick Mahomes, but if James Bradberry and Darius Slay don't start playing like they did last year, there could be more shootouts on the horizon for the Birds.
3. All they do is win
Even with all the warts, the Eagles are still on top of the NFC and hold a 2.5-game lead in the division at the midway(ish) point of the season. They're even in the midst of a 27-week streak with the best record in the NFL.
Consider this: there have been 12 games this season where a team has been out-gained by 90 yards and the Eagles are responsible for three of them.
They can win in shootouts, they can win on the ground and they can grind out ugly wins when things aren't going their way.
"Survive and advance" doesn't exist in the regular season and it would be nice to see more style points, but it's hard to argue with the results in a results-driven business.
