Report: Eagles bringing in Joe Flacco for a visit

The Eagles plan to bring in veteran quarterback Joe Flacco for a visit, according to a report from Pro Football Talk.

Flacco, 36-years old, spent last season with the New York Jets. He has been primarily a backup for the last two seasons, going 2-10 with 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions for both the Jets and Denver Broncos.

Flacco has been linked to the Eagles before, as the Delaware native was rumored to be a target for the Eagles last offseason before they drafted Jalen Hurts.

Now the question is, if the Eagles did decide to bring in Flacco, what would that mean to Hurts?

Clearly at 36-years old Flacco would not be anywhere near a threat to Hurts to take over the job permanently. A decision to bring in Flacco could be viewed as essentially handing the job to Hurts, despite the Eagles insistence there will be just as competition at the quarterback spot as there will be at all the other positions. Chances are Hurts would be a fan of the decision to bring in Flacco. He is a veteran that could help him in the quarterback room while posing no real threat out on the field.

For the Eagles, Flacco likely would be pretty cheap as a backup, and as his 2-10 record in his last 12 starts indicates, chances are he wouldn't play at a high level if he did have to go into the game. While they would never admit it publicly, chances are the Eagles would prefer a high draft pick if Hurts were to suffer a serious injury over their backup carrying them into the postseason.

While he certainly has a different playing style than Hurts, which could be an issue should he have to go in, Flacco seems to check off all the boxes for the Eagles — old, not a threat to Hurts, cheap and not that good.
