When the Eagles fired Doug Pederson they apparently had one name clearly at the top of their wish list — and that name said no.
According to Paul Domowitch of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Eagles did indeed offer Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley their head coaching job and Riley said no.
Riley saying no is not overly surprising, but it is easy to see why the Eagles would have so much interest.
Riley, 37-years old, has coached at Oklahoma since 2015, but took over as head coach in 2017. He has had an incredibly successful run at Oklahoma, helping to coach up two Heisman winning quarterbacks in Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray, while also putting together an explosive offense with Jalen Hurts.
Unless Riley changes his mind, like Chip Kelly did in 2013, the Eagles will have to decide from the list of available candidates. New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni and running back coach Duce Staley appear to be among the finalists for the job.
