Rumor: Howie Roseman paying extra attention to scouting Malik Willis at Senior Bowl

The Eagles are well represented at the Senior Bowl this week, with Jeffrey Lurie, Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni (plus all their scouts and assistant coaches) in attendance for the week of practices.

It seems Roseman spend some time paying extra attention to one of the most prominent quarterbacks there.

According to Football Outsider's Mike Tanier:

Liberty quarterback Malik Willis has the best arm in Mobile, and it's not close. He rifles off medium-range passes, both from the pocket and on the run, with little effort. Willis doesn't have an off-speed pitch, however, and his accuracy was scattershot on Tuesday. Still, some teams are about to have visions of Trey Lance-meets-Josh Allen dancing in their heads. Some Eagle-eyed observers noted Howie Roseman paying particular attention to Willis.

Willis seems to be impressing down in Mobile, Alabama, as multiple reports from practice have listed him as the best quarterback of the week so far. Willis is arguably the most physically gifted quarterback in this year's class, with a cannon for an arm and an elite ability to keep plays alive when the protection breaks down.

Willis, who started his college career at Auburn, finished last season with 27 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and 2,857 yards passing in 13 games for Liberty. He also added 878 yards and 13 touchdowns rushing on 197 attempts.

Willis is currently projected to go in the first round. After this week at the Senior Bowl it is possible he is working his way into the top half of the first round.

Of course, this is just one observation and an opinion as to how closely Roseman was watching Willis. Roseman is there to scout all the players, including the quarterbacks. Considering the drama surrounding the Eagles' quarterback position, however, it is noteworthy that he appears to be focused in on Willis.

The Eagles own the 15th, 16th and 19th pick in the first round. Despite getting a year from Jalen Hurts where he exceeded expectations, it is safe to say the team is going to at least explore using those picks to upgrade the quarterback position.

That process is continuing at the Senior Bowl — and is going to keep going all the way up until the draft.
