A former high school official of Saquon Barkley, who attended Whitehall Township high school in Pennsylvania, called into SportsRadio94WIP on Tuesday and told an amazing story about the character of the Eagles' new running back.
The former official, Rick, says that an 18-year-old Barkley put his gold medal around the neck of a crying female student who won her race, but lost after the ruled a false start and re-ran the race.
Barkley ran track and played football and basketball at Whitehall Township and Rick called him, "The most respectful kid I've had officiating ever. Never had a bad word, never complained to officials."
The Eagles signed Barkley to a three-year deal worth up to $46.75 million with $26 million guaranteed on Monday, just hours after the NFL legal tampering began.
The 27-year-old former Penn Stater hopes to have his best years in the NFL in Philadelphia.
