Heading into training camp, Spike wasn’t expecting much from Jalen Hurts in 2024, given how last season ended and his eye-opening comments [or lack thereof] about Nick Sirianni earlier in the offseason.
But after seeing how Hurts responded to that criticism, and reports coming out of training camp, he has done a 180 on his forecast of the Eagles quarterback, and is now expecting a huge season.
“The truth is, when training camp started this year, I expected a few things from Jalen Hurts,” Spike said. “I expected him to flunk the press conference test. I didn’t think he would go down in flames, but I did think, when followed up with that question about Sirianni…I did think that his pride and maybe contempt would get in the way of doing what I thought needed to be done.
“I expected, when training camp started, for the reports to be of Jalen not looking so great in the offense…but quite honestly, it has been exactly the opposite.”
Hurts has instead passed all of those tests, and because of that, Spike is expecting a return to 2022 form.
“I believe that I was wrong,” Spike said. “And that Jalen Hurts will have an MVP-type season.”
