The Eagles’ first touchdown of the day was to rookie DeVonta Smith…and their third was another first: the first career score for Kenneth Gainwell.
This year’s fifth-round pick out of Memphis got quite a bit of run in the Eagles’ backfield, including any sets where the Eagles were playing a two-minute drill type of no-huddle offense, and on his sixth carry and eighth touch of the day, Gainwell scampered eight yards untouched for this third-quarter score:
And right there to celebrate with him? His cousin, Eagles DT Fletcher Cox.
The score and extra point gave Philly, a 3.5-point underdog, a 22-6 lead. They went on to win 32-6, and Gainwell finished with nine carries for 37 yards, two catches for six yards, and that touchdown.
