PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Flyers are ushering in a new era while paying homage to years past.
The organization revealed its new jersey designs on Tuesday, featuring burnt orange uniforms that nod to teams of the ’80s and ’90s.
The striping across the shoulders and arms has been widened to make more room for players’ numbers on the sleeves. Those numbers are also reverting back to a single-color design for the first time since the original 1967-1970 uniforms.
The black horizontal stripe at the bottom has been moved down further, mimicking the 1982 jerseys. The new jerseys will still have a contrasting nameplate design; the Flyers are still the only team in the NHL to do so.
Probably most notable, the new home jerseys will include a logo of Independence Blue Cross, the official health insurance partner of the Flyers. It’s the first-ever patch of a partner to be featured on the uniforms.

Amid the alternations, though, the iconic “flying P” logo still stands tall.
The Flyers last altered their jerseys in 2010.
“These burnt orange sweaters are one of the most iconic symbols of Flyers hockey,” Keith Jones, Flyers president of hockey operations and alternate governor, said in a statement. “There’s no doubt that this look is known throughout the NHL and uniquely beloved by our fans because it brings to life one of the most important parts of our rebuild — it honors our past while we continue to forge a new path forward.”
“This New Era of Orange is all about honoring our franchise’s storied past while writing an exciting, new chapter of Flyers history,” added Daniel Hilferty, Comcast Spectacor chairman and CEO and governor of the Flyers.
The Flyers partnered with Adidas in the design. They will debut the new uniforms in the 2023-2024 season.
