Philadelphia Phillies president Dave Dombrowski joined Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie on Friday's 94WIP Morning Show to discuss an incredibly successful Phillies' regular season and to look ahead to another highly anticipated Red October.
Dombrowski spoke on many topics, including if manager Rob Thomson will be willing to move away from certain players quicker in this year's postseason after getting hurt by sticking with Craig Kimbrel and Johan Rojas last October.
"I think it depends upon who the player is when you talk about that," Dombrowski said. "Let's just take for example one of our big guys—talk about Schwarber, Turner, Harper...they're struggling, they have a bad couple of days, I don't think he's going to make many changes with those guys. You talk about Rojas, he very well may based upon the situation. And the other thing you have, you have more choices in this situation here. [Austin] Hayes and [Brandon] Marsh you can argue one way or the other, but in Rojas' case they're good alternatives. I think our bullpen is very deep, it's deeper than it was last year. He used Kimbrel and then he came back with it and unfortunately Craig didn't have a good couple of days. Yeah, I think he learns from that and he gains experience from that, and will be much more proactive maybe in some [situations]. Again, every circumstance is different and every situation."
Dombrowski was asked if we should expect to see Bryson Stott or Edmundo Sosa in the starting lineup against left handed pitchers.
"I don't even think I can answer that question at this point," Dombrowski said. "We can feel comfortable with either one of them."
A key pitcher for the Phillies entering the postseason will be Ranger Suarez, who has struggled after a red hot start to the regular season. Can Ranger get back to his early season dominant form?
"I think he can, but we still have to see it," Dombrowski said. "I'm anxious to see his start today. I do think he's capable of it. You know he's not going to get nervous going out there...He's confident, he's a good pitcher."
