Penn Medicine Dr. on Bryce Harper's broken thumb presented by NovaCare

Phillies MVP Bryce Harper suffered a broken left thumb during the team's 4-2 win over the San Diego Padres on Saturday night.

Dr. Andrew Sobel, MD is a hand and upper extremity orthopedic surgeon at Penn Medicine and see patients in Philadelphia and Berwyn Pa. He joined Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Monday to discuss Harper's injury.


"If the bone is really shifted, most likely that would probably benefit for some surgery," Dr. Sobel said.

"I would expect him to back by [the postseason], I would hope."

Dr. Sobel is Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopedic Surgery,
Division of Hand and Upper Extremity Department of Orthopedic Surgery Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Sobel specializes in hand, wrist and elbow surgery from common to the most complex injuries and conditions in patients of all ages. He also clinically focuses on trauma and microsurgery. Additionally, he treats nerve injuries, arthritis, tendon and ligament injuries as well as sports -related injuries.

While in Rhode Island, he cared for Brown University athletic teams and the Providence Bruins along with the Boston Bruins AHL affiliate.
