Trea Turner went hitless in Tuesday's 2-0 loss to the Mets, dropping his season OPS to a lowly .663.
Turner's disastrous start was hardly what the Phillies were hoping for when they signed the 2022 All-Star to an 11-year, $300 million deal, and Joe DeCamara has had enough with excuses for Turner.
"Clearly, he should be better than this…what we've seen so far, it's really been bad," Joe said. "Pick up a freaking bat and hit the ball, and when the ball is hit in the infield, keep it in the infield."
Jon Ritchie pointed out that adjusting to playing in a market like Philadelphia isn't an easy one.
"I think this is an anomaly," Jon said. "I think Trea Turner is going through what Nick Castellanos did…I don't think it will take Trea Turner that long."
Joe didn't want to hear about the adjustment. A player of Turner's caliber, and with the paycheck he now carries, that is not an excuse. He needs to start producing, now.
"For $300 million," Joe said. "Get over it."
