Kyle Schwarber joined Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Tuesday and talked about why the Phillies were an appealing destination for him in free-agency.
"Philly was definitely a priority for me," Schwarer said, who signed a four-year deal worth around $80 million with Philadelphia last week. "The biggest thing, I want to win, right? I've been on winning teams, winning organizations. Obviously, being with the Cubs for a long time. Then, I was in Washington last year and being traded over to Boston at the deadline last year and making the playoffs there. It's just a crazy, kind of addictive feeling that you want to keep making it back and you want to keep trying to get to that cherry on top, to the World Series right?
"That's why the Phillies were so appealing to me. Because you look at the team, this is a team that—you have the NL MVP [in Bryce Harper]. You've got the runner up, who coulda, shoulda—it's possibly my opinion, should have won the Cy Young [in Zack Wheeler], no offense to Corbin Burnes. I know it was a tight race, whatever, but had a heck of a year last year. And you look at some of the best players at their positions on this team.
"It's just a team that you feel like they're just built to win. It's going to be an exciting and the next four years for me being here to try to help bring a World Series back here with all of these guys to Philly."
