Here's an all-too familiar sentence for Mets fans: today's game has been postponed.
New York wont' have a chance to build upon its three-game winning streak Thursday afternoon, as the series finale against the Phillies was postponed due to rain, and will be made up as part of a double header on June 25.
So far this season, the Mets had three straight games against the Nationals postponed due to COVID-19 cases within Washington's clubhouse, then had a series finale against the Marlins suspended a week later in the top of the first inning due to rain, only to have Monday's series opener against the Phillies postponed due to rain as well.
That game was made up as part of a double header on Tuesday, but the series still wasn't able to be completed, as Thursday marks the sixth game suspended or postponed already this season, just two weeks into the 2021 campaign.
With the Mets now playing a double header on Friday, June 25 (first pitch of the first game is scheduled for 4:10 p.m.) to make up for Thursday's postponement, the team will have two doubleheaders in a span of one week due to postponements. New York has a twin bill against the Nationals on June 19 to make up for one of the games that couldn't be played at the start of the season.
Jacob deGrom was scheduled to start for the Mets on Thursday.
