One star leaves, another one enters. Such is life in the revolving door that is Philadelphia sports, with Phillies newcomer Nicholas Castellanos reportedly shelling out $4.55 million for a property previously belonging to Sixers mainstay Ben Simmons, now of the Brooklyn Nets.
Situated in the wealthy suburb of Moorestown, New Jersey, the 10,500-square-foot estate comes with amenities like a ventilated smoking lounge, private gaming room (an avid gamer, Simmons’ affinity for all-night COD sessions is well-documented), full service bar, home theater and dog park. It’s also equipped with a massive fish tank, elevator, state-of-the-art security system and, of course, a candy room for storing all your sweets.
Castellanos got a discount too (not that he needed one after being rewarded with a five-year, $100-million contract in March), paying $450,000 below asking price. Simmons, who also owns a mansion in Hidden Hills (he purchased it for $17.5 million last summer), is still trying to unload his Ritz Carlton condo in Center City, currently listed at $3 million.
The embattled point guard hasn’t played in nearly a year and could be headed for another lengthy absence after recently undergoing back surgery, a procedure that carries a 3-4-month recovery time. Meanwhile, Castellanos has enjoyed a productive debut season in Philadelphia, batting a respectable .287 with five homers and 18 RBI through 31 games while manning right field in place of injured All-Star Bryce Harper, who has mostly been limited to DHing.
