Bryce Harper has eight years remaining on his $330 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, but his agent Scott Boras told Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer that he wants a contract extension.

Joe DeCamara called it absurd and ridiculous on Thursday's 94WIP Morning Show.

"When I saw this headline and story related to the Phils, I was like, 'You've got to be kidding me.' Now, I know I'm bracing myself here," DeCamara said. "I'm going to put body armor on because I know when I say this people aren't going to like it, but I am going to say it anyway. This concept that Bryce Harper wants a contract extension is pure absurdity.

"And yes, I believe he is the best player in Philadelphia sports, and obviously he's now lower than two or three. But Bryce Harper having eight, EIGHT, years on his deal...

"Look, I get that Bryce is—I'll say it, something I did not expect—over delivering, to this point, on 13 years and 330 million dollars. But that does not mean, that does not mean, you just hand him money for ages 39, 40, 41 just because he wants it. That's not good business."

Boras, according to Lauber's story, says Harper let him know that he wants to extent his contract for the remainder of his career.

”Bryce has let me know that he wants to work out an extension so that he knows that he’s going to be there for the remainder of his career," Boras reportedly said.

Currently, Harper is set to make $26 million per season from 2024-2028 and then $22 million per season from 2029-2031, his age 36, 37, and 38 seasons.
