The Phillies are reportedly interested in adding outfielder Cody Bellinger or starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery and 94WIP's Howard Eskin says the report as a real possibility.

"It depends on what Bryce Harpers wants because Bryce Harper wants somebody and that's his agent, so Bryce Harper will tell him to work with the team to bring him to the Phillies," Eskin said on Tuesday's 94WIP Midday Show.

Joe Giglio informed Eskin that both Cody Bellinger and Jordan Montgomery are clients of agent Scott Boras.

Eskin believes the team will ultimately add Montgomery over Bellinger because of their need for a starter.

"There you go, one of them is coming," he said. "No question because the general manager Bryce Harper wants them to come...I think they'll go after Montgomery more than Bellinger because I think it's easier to find a bat during the season if you have to trade for one. But they know they need a starting pitcher."

Montgomery, 31, went 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA in 11 starts with the Rangers last season after being traded from St. Louis to Texas the MLB trade deadline.

Baseball Reference projects the left-hander to go 9-9 with a 3.66 ERA in 172.0 innings in 2024.

Last week, Giglio listed his five players the Phillies should target before Spring Training, and his top option was the aforementioned Bellinger, a 28-year-old two-time All-Star outfielder.

"Bellinger, according to most reports, is seeking 200 million dollars. Where is he getting that right now?" Giglio said. "Things happen and maybe a big market will suddenly need something...If he would take, I don't know, a two-year, 50 million dollar with an opt out after one...Bellinger is everything this team needs."

Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski will join Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie on Wednesday's (Feb. 7th) 94WIP Morning Show at 8:30am.
