While the Phillies have been red hot in the month of June, manager Rob Thomson believes the team still has more room to grow, at least offensively.
"We have certainly played better," Thomson told the 94WIP Morning Show on Wednesday. "Our starting pitching has been outstanding, our bullpen has been good all year long. And we've started to hit a little bit. I don't think we've reached our stride yet with our offense, I think there's still more in there and I think it's coming. I think we're better than we were, but I think there is still more to come."
After winning 13 of 15 and their last five series', the Phils lost 4-2 to the Braves on Tuesday in the first of six straight NL East games at Citizens Bank Park.
Tonight, Aaron Nola takes the mound, as the Phillies look to avoid their first series loss since May 30th-June 1st.
Nola has struggled a bit of late, as he is just 2-3 in his last five starts with 19 earned runs and seven home runs allowed over that span.
"I expect a really good ballgame," Thomson said of Nola getting the start tonight in game two of a three game set vs. the division leading Braves. "To me, he's a big game pitcher and he steps up when we need him. I think of Aaron as a big game guy, I think he steps up to the challenge, he likes challenges and I think he is going to pitch well."
