Phillies All-Star Bryce Harper will have UCL surgery next week, team president Dave Dombrowski said during a season-wrap up press conference on Wednesday.
The surgery, which may or may not be Tommy John surgery, could affect Harper's 2023 season, but a timetable is not yet known.
Dombrowski said he does not expect the surgery to "slow him down" whenever Harper is ready to make his 2023 debut, but he could be limited to being the team's designated hitter once again next season.
Harper, 30, is the heart and soul of the Phillies and is living up to his mega 13-year, $330 million contract.
After winning the NL MVP in 2021, Harper followed up playing 2022 as the team's DH as he dealt with his elbow injury, slashing .286/.364/.514 with 18 home runs and 65 RBI in 99 games.
Then, Harper had a historic postseason leading the Phillies to the World Series, where he went 38-139 (.273) with 11 home runs, 11 doubles and 23 RBI in 17 games.
