The Philadelphia Phillies have designated outfielder Odubel Herrera for assignment, immediately removing him from the 40-man roster, the team announced on Tuesday.
Herrera can be traded or completely waived by the Phillies within seven days.
Herrera, 30, has spent his entire seven season career with Philadelphia slashing .271/.326/.419 with 78 homers and 305 RBIs.
The Phillies designated Herrera for assignment in 2020 and he cleared waivers and joined the Triple-A Lehigh Valley Ironpigs, before finding his way back onto the big league roster.
Herrera was suspended in 2019 for violating the MLB Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. That, plus repeated judgment lapses on the bases and in the field, have caused him to become a disliked member of the Philadelphia fan base.
