The Philadelphia Phillies covered the run line (+1.5) in a win over the New York Mets in the 2023 regular-season finale to earn their 90th win and 71st ATS win over the season.

If they had failed to cover, it would’ve been their first season with 70 or fewer ATS wins since 2012. But, unlike 2012, last year’s Phillies had a strange season at the sportsbook.

In securing a 90th win, the Phillies became just the second MLB team since 2015 to win 90 games outright and lose 90 games against the run line. Eleven years earlier, they went 69-93 ATS, but won only 81 games.

The Phillies’ difference in overall winning percentage to ATS winning percentage (.118) is significantly lower than the other 90-win, 90-loss team since 2015; the New York Yankees (.167) won 99 games in 2022 but went 72-90 against the run line.

The Phillies’ difference ranks below 10 other teams over that time, including last year’s 104-win Atlanta Braves that covered only 83 run lines.
