More than a week after Dave Dombrowski took over duties as the new president of baseball operations, the Philadelphia Phillies hired Sam Fuld to be the next general manager of the team.
For the last three years, Fuld has been a member of the Phillies front office, most recently as the director of integrative baseball performance. Fuld was considered for half a dozen managerial positions and was the runner-up for the Boston Red Sox manager job.
Before joining the front office, Fuld spent eight seasons in the big leagues, spending the majority of his career with the Chicago Cubs and Tampa Bay Rays.
The Phillies also hired Jorge Velandia as assistant GM to Fuld. Velandia also played in the majors and worked under Matt Klentak in the analytics department.
