Rhys Hoskins tore his ACL during Thursday’s spring training game, the Phillies announced.

The Phillies first baseman was retreating to the outfield grass to play a chopper when he sustained a non-contact injury. Hoskins went falling to the ground in visible pain.

The Phillies revealed Thursday evening that it was a torn ACL, which will require an “ACL reconstruction." The Phillies did not name a recovery timetable for Hoskins, and said the when and where of the surgery is to be determined. Given the nature of the injury, it's highly likely he will miss the entire season.

Once the procedure is done, a timeline should become more clear. Hoskins is in a contract year, and earlier in the week on 94WIP Dave Dombrowski said they would take a wait and see approach on his free agency.
