Thomson: 'Hoskins further ahead than what I expected'

Rhys Hoskins recently started traveling with the Phillies and is now jogging.

"He's doing extremely well," Phillies manager Rob Thomson told the 94WIP Morning Show on Wednesday. "He's now jogging. He's doing his throwing program, doing some light sprints and things like that. I don't know what the timeline is because I am not a doctor or trainer, but it seems to me he is further ahead than what I expected him to be.

"I think there's a chance, I guess, by the end of the season that he could be back."

Hoskins, 30, suffered a torn ACL during a Spring game in March. The first baseman has spent his entire pro career with the Phillies since 2017 and in January he signed a one-year, $12 million contract avoiding arbitration.

Hoskins hit 30 home runs last season and then six more in the postseason, including four in the NLCS.
