Joe Giglio, now over 24-hours removed the Phillies' devastating NLCS collapse, is unsure Rob Thomson is the right manager to get the Phillies over the hump and win a World Series.

"I like Rob Thomson," Giglio began at the top of Thursday's 94WIP Midday Show with Hugh Douglas. "I think he is a good manager and I think he's done a really good job with the Phillies since he took over as an interim manager from Joe Girardi a couple of years ago. World Series trip last year and of course to the LCS this year, back to back playoff trips Rob Thomson has done an overall nice job.

"But guys I'm starting to have some real doubts about Rob Thomson in one specific area and that's actually the most important area, and that's his ability to manager to win a championship in October. Because that's the whole goal, they've graduated...Next year is about nothing but winning the World Series.

"His steadiness, he's steady Topper, his loyalty, his tremendous for regular season. That's the way I view it...You got to be steady during the regular season. He's been outrageously good in the regular season...But that same good of Topper in the regular season, I'm starting to feel is his downfall in the postseason. He is not quick to react, he is not quick to change his mind, he is very, very loyal to what he does whether it be the lineup, whether it be playing Johan Rojas until it was obvious that he was overmatched, using Craig Kimbrel in that spot [in Game 4].

"I believe Rob Thomson was a big part of the reason, not the only reason, but a big part of the season they didn't beat the Diamondbacks. He was outmanaged and I have my doubts that Rob Thomson is the right manager to win a World Series. Look, I'm not calling for Rob Thomson's firing, it would take something very unique and specific for me to want to move on and upgrade. Just point blank, period, my feeling this morning is that I have doubts he is the manager to win the World Series."

Thomson is 155-118 (.568) in the regular season and 19-11 (.579) in two postseasons since taking over as Phillies manager in 2022.

The Phillies will have an end of season press conference with Thomson, GM Sam Fuld, and president Dave Dombrowski today at 4pm on 94WIP.
