Rob Thomson says he believes the Philadelphia Phillies are good enough to win the World Series without making any trades on Tuesday, the MLB trade deadline day.
"I have said all along, I love this group, I love the character, I love the talent that we've got," Thomson said on Monday. "If we did nothing I think this team is good enough to win the whole thing. That's really what I concern myself with. I'm not the GM, I'm not the president of baseball operations. I am the manager of this ballclub and so whatever we have in here we go with and I think if we play up to our capability we are good enough to win."
The Phils, despite most of their players underperforming individually this season, are still eight games above .500 at 57-49, currently good enough for the NL's second wildcard spot.
The MLB trade deadline is at 6:00pm E.T. on Tuesday, August 1st and Dave Dombrowski and the Phils are expected to be active buyers.
