It's not my favorite home run of the Phillies' 2008 World Series run, to be honest. That one goes to Matt Stairs for his unforgettable blast off of Jonathan Broxton -- and the amazing, yes amazing, call made by Joe Buck.
But today, we remember Shane Victorino's grand slam on the date that it happened 12 years ago, taking dominant Brewers ace CC Sabathia -- who had gone 11-2 with a 1.65 ERA for his new team prior to the playoffs -- deep in the second inning (via MLB Film Room).
Man... if that roar of the crowd doesn't, a) make you miss Phillies playoff baseball, and b) make you angry at what coronavirus has taken away from the world of live sports, I don't know what will.
I'm not alone in feeling goosebumps every time I watch the Flyin' Hawaiian make that sweet connection off of CC. Victorino himself gets nostalgic when he watches the play.
*Sigh*... the good ol' days.
He'll always be a beloved member of the Phillies, opting to retire as a member of the team with which he spent the most time and found the most success. His retirement ceremony back in 2018 was everything we could have asked for: emotional, full of energy, and concluded with a pitch to Ryan Howard and a familiar "mahalo" (via MLB Film Room).
