Can you imagine MLB superstar Shohei Ohtani in a Phillies uniform? It seems far fetched, but MLB Network's Dan Plesac believes it is at least a possibility.
"I think they have some very enticing young players and I think Dave Dombrowski is from that old school," Plesac said. "And they have that ownership group there that got a taste of the World Series last year. They want to get back this year."
While Plesac doesn't believe the Phils are a long-term option, he does believe they'd be interested in renting Ohtani, who is set to become an unrestricted free-agent after the season.
"I really think they're in," as a short-term rental, Plesac said.
Ohtani is slashing .302/.387/.663 with a MLB best 32 home runs and 71 RBI. As a pitcher, he is 7-4 with a 3.32 ERA. However, once again, the Angels are struggling as they are just 45-46 this season, 5.0 games back of an AL Wildcard spot.
The Phils would likely have to give up a ton for just a few months of the game's best player, which would almost certainly include top pitching prospects Andrew Painter, Mick Abel and more.
