Joe DeCamara has lost confidence in new Phillie Trea Turner and does not believe he will turn around his, so far, brutal 2023 season.
Turner talk begins around 23:33 mark
"Trea Turner, I'm getting freakin' sick of this guy," DeCamara said on Monday. "I'm getting sick of this guy. And he actually had some hits over the weekend, but he had a huge strikeout on Saturday.
"Do you expect Trea Turner to turn it around this season? Yes or no? Count me as a no. I've seen enough to know, I now don't count on the guy and I'm frickin' sick and tired of it. It's 300 million dollars. He's supposed to be at worst their second best offensive player. He has been overmatched...Come on, man. His season has stunk. He's got an on-base percentage of around .300. Totally unacceptable for the money that he is making."
94WIP Midday Show host Joe Giglio had a similar rant on June 1st.
“I’ve had it with Trea Turner,” Giglio said. “Eleven years and $300 million, and at this point, I don’t know what to say other than he doesn’t look like he’s worth a quarter of that…he was supposed to be a difference maker, and you look over some of the numbers…he’s one of the worst 20 players in baseball."
Rob Thomson, who joins the 94WIP Morning Show every other Wednesday at 9am, said last week he believes Turner is going to get hot at some point.
Turner, in his first season as a Phillie after signing an 11-year, $300 million contract this offseason, is hitting a career low .249 through 98 games with just 10 home runs and 34 RBIs. Turner's .302 on-base percentage is also a career low and his .390 slugging percentage is his lowest mark since his rookie season, which consisted of just 44 plate appearances.
Turner has a -1.0 win probability added for an offensive player. He's never finished a season with a negative WPA.
