PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The first 11 innings of baseball Thursday did not go so well for the Philadelphia Phillies. The last four went a lot better.
Brad Miller jacked a walk-off grand slam home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, the first extra inning of the second half of a doubleheader Thursday, and the Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 11-8 in the nightcap of the doubleheader.
Philadelphia was coming off a 3-1 loss to the Nats in game one and had a 7-0 deficit entering the fifth inning of the second game. But they began chipping away at the deficit, and in the seventh and last inning of regulation play, they made a two-out rally to send the game to extra innings.
Then, after the Nationals scored a run to start the eighth inning, the Phillies loaded the bases in their half of the frame. It was, as they say, Miller Time.
Several Phillies went to social media to celebrate the win.
