National Urban League honors George Floyd with 9 minutes, 29 seconds of activism

This Tuesday (May 25) marks one year since the tragic death of George Floyd. Floyd was murdered by Derek Chauvin, whom knelt on Floyd's neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds.

The National Urban League, according to a press statement, "invites allies, partner organizations, community leaders, and anyone who values justice to join a collective effort to honor George Floyd’s life and legacy." At 3pm ET, they'll be hosting a 9 Minutes and 29 Seconds of Action.

The event is intended to "support our ongoing call for accountability and reform by dedicating 9 minutes and 29 seconds to contact your Senator to support a strong police reform bill— the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act." Those willing to participate should text JUSTICENOW to 52886.

A conversation will also be held on Instagram Live at 6PM ET. "Tune in to the National Urban League’s Instagram Live (@NatUrbanLeague) conversation to honor George Floyd’s life and memory and the work that remains if we are to achieve justice. The conversation is part of the NEW Justice Now IG Live series, a bimonthly series centering on social justice topics that deeply shape the lives of Black and brown communities and mobilize them to action."

Lastly, at 10:25PM ET, the National Urban League calls for a moment of silence for 9 minutes and 29 seconds. The time marks his official time of death.
