Snoop’s mom Beverly Tate, passed away in October 2021. He previously announced the tragic news on Instagram with the caption: “Thank u god for giving me an angel for a mother.” Hours later, the “Gangsta Luv” rapper performed at Big Night Live in Boston as scheduled, rather than cancel the show. “I wasn’t even gonna come out here and perform tonight ’cause my mother passed away earlier tonight,” Snoop announced at the time. “But in the spirit of the people of Boston, I wanted to come out here and represent for y’all because this is what my mama would have wanted me to do.”
Snoop reminisced on that particular moment on the latest Drink Champs. “That’s what mama wanted me to do. To me, her transition made me better. Because now she’s up top watching over me, it’s no accident I wanted all these things that are happening right now because she’s pulling strings for me,” he expressed. Also during the episode, Snoop detailed why he decided to remove several Death Row releases from digital streaming platforms – as the new owner of Death Row Records.
Reportedly, the iconic rapper has plans of bringing Death Row into the metaverse as an NFT label. “First thing I did was snatch all the music off those platforms traditionally known to people, because those platforms don’t pay,” Snoop said. “And those platforms get millions of millions of streams, and nobody gets paid other than the record labels. So what I wanted to do is snatch my music off, create a platform similar to Amazon, Netflix, Hulu. It’ll be a Death Row app, and the music, in the meantime, will live in the metaverse.”
