Brian Sabean, the architect of the even year champs, called into 95.7 The Game on Monday afternoon and shared his thoughts on the Bruce Bochy’s retirement news among myriad topics.
“Well, unfortunately, the last two years he’s been challenged, just in the freak of what can happen in your life or in sports — one off the field, one on,” Sabean told Ray Ratto and Bonta Hill.
“We all know the competitor or the lion that he is. We all know in recent memory there’s not a better postseason pitcher. I hate for the organization to think of the alternative that he wouldn’t be in a Giants uniform.”
“But, Farhan’s coming into this with a clean slate, as far as his thoughts and his vision for the ball club and he’s a free-agent to-be. We’ll see how this develops.
“I think Bum, much like last spring training, which in ironic, he’s going to be ready to go. And the pressure of this situation can’t be any greater than what he’s done in postseasons, or, specifically, Game 7 of the World Series."
