Brian Sabean, entering his 27th season in the Giants front office, joined Ray Ratto and Bonta Hill in the wake of Bruce Bochy’s announcement that he is retiring
“I think that type of control or consistency or just air of confidence bleeds into the players and the situation. I don’t think there was ever a situation that was bigger than him in the three World Series that he managed.
Sabean, who has taken a back seat since Farhan Zaidi was brought in as president of baseball ops, was also asked how Giants are approaching the Harper pursuit. Here’s how Sabean put it:
“We’re involved in the first person, and just like the Phillies, we would like the player. But, to answer your question, you can’t commit organizational suicide. If you can’t put a team around the present and the future, it kind of, like is, perhaps, a road to nowhere.”
“So, there will be a limit to our thinking or really what we can do. I can’t speak for the Phillies or any other team.”
