Newsom says sports could return first week of June without fans

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced Monday that there's a possibility sporting events in the state could return the first week of June.

"Sporting events, pro sports, in that first week or so of June — without spectators and with modifications and very prescriptive conditions — can also begin to move forward," Newsom said. 

He also made it clear that the state has to "hold these trend lines in the next number of weeks" for this to happen.

As of Monday, California had 78,839 confirmed coronavirus cases and 3,261 deaths. 

Governor Newsom said that over the last two weeks, California has seen a 7.5% decline in hospitalizations and 8.7% decline in the number of ICU patients.
