John Clayton: Gruden a ‘big fan’ of Antonio Brown, Raiders better positioned for trade than 49ers

Famed NFL insider John Clayton called into “Joe, Lo & Dibs” to offer his perspective on the rumors swirling around Antonio Brown.

“I think, actually, Oakland would have a better chance to do something because they have three (first-round) draft choices. And, of course, I think you could pretty well anticipate that the Steelers would like a No. 1.”

The Raiders are slotted at No. 4 in the draft and also have the No. 24 Bears pick and the No. 27 Cowboys selection. The 49ers pick at No. 2.

“Now, again, if they can’t get it, they can’t get it,” Clayton continued. “And they think they have to move on from Antonio Brown…

“The four top teams in the draft all need wide receiver help and you’re not going to trade a top four pick for Antonio Brown knowing that this is a good defensive draft and you’re giving away a pro bowl player of the future.”

“So, now what you start to look at (is) what teams can put together good second-round options or teams that are going to be bidding in the low first round that might be able to do things. And so, I could easily see Denver, maybe, using their first-round pick or putting something together.”

“I could see — the Raiders have three first-round picks — and I think Jon Gruden would be interested in getting a guy like Antonio Brown because I know he was a big fan of Antonio’s work ethic and talent.”

“So, I think there’s a decent chance — if you start to stack it all up — I think there’s a good chance he could be in the Bay Area.”
