The Bryce Harper derby does not appear to be trending in the right direction for the San Francisco Giants, late entrants to the field.
“I think it’s intensifying now, and, all the teams that we’ve heard, I think, our the main teams: the Padres, the Giants and the White Sox are the other teams for Harper. The Nats, perhaps. I haven’t heard a lot about them lately but they are the incumbent team…”
Heyman said those are the teams willing to extend Harper a long-term deal, adding that he still thinks the right fielder will crack the $300 million plateau.
Looking at the ledger, Heyman suggested that Harper likes the West Coast and the city of San Francisco, but pointed out that the cavernous ballpark is not a pro.
“I’m not ruling them out,” Heyman said of the Giants. “While we say the Phillies are the favorite, it doesn’t mean that it’s a slam dunk and they’re going to get him.”
Back on Saturday, Jim Bowden, the former front office exec turned insider, said that Harper appeared to be "rounding third" on a deal with the Phillies.
