As the deadline inches closer, conflicting reports on the Giants’ top potential trade piece, Madison Bumgarner, continue to surface.

The day began with the news that the Astros, powerhouse of the AL West, are, reportedly, in the MadBum business. Yahoo Sports’ Tim Brown has the scoop:

Source says Giants and Astros "engaged" on Bumgarner. Amount of traction unclear.

Joel Sheman of the New York Post and MLB Network followed that up, writing on Twitter: “Hear similar, mainly that #Astros badly want to leave deadline with MadBum, Wheeler or Bauer. That is their primary target list.”

Minutes later, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported that a MadBum splash does not appear to be in the future:

Keep in mind: "doubtful" doesn't mean 100%. If the Giants are blown away by an offer, it's still possible Bumgarner moves. But it seems the Giants are inclined to hold on to him as of now. https://t.co/0y5dWZADME

The answer will come soon enough, with the deadline arriving at 1 pm on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, here's what MadBum is up to:
