Al Guido, president of the 49ers, joined “The Afternoon Delight with Greg Papa and Bonta Hill” on Thursday afternoon for a wide-ranging conversation.
“I certainly have had some conversations with Mark throughout this process,” Guido said on 95.7 The Game. “Not just, obviously, the temporary home, potentially, but also as they were working through the (Las) Vegas (move).”
“I don’t have a formal update on that front. Obviously, we’ve always said to Marc that we’re happy to entertain or be an option for them,” Badain continued. “I think our stance has never really changed on that front. I know he’s looking at other sites right now, also still discussing, I think, with Oakland.”
“I’d have to ask him more details, Pop, on that front. Certainly Marc and I have had discussions. I would imagine in coming months, maybe before the Super Bowl, that they would have an answer as to where they’ll go, if they’re going to go anywhere.”
“We’ll root for them. We’ll have discussions with them. We’re working with the NFL, potentially, on scheduling. But there’s no real news — any other news — at this time.”
Guido also addressed the idea of the Raiders taking up temporary residence at AT&T Park. The 49ers, if they choose, could prove to be a roadblock on the path to such a move. Larry Baer, president/CEO, has been dialoguing with Badain about the possibility.
“It is true that it does fall within our territorial rights,” Guido said. “So, I guess we could say, we could say no to that. I have not had any conversations with Marc or Larry on that front whatsoever.”
“Obviously, we’re competitive on the field. Marc and I do share a lot from working together and having the same job in this sport. So, we’re trying to be helpful to them. We know they ultimately are moving.”
“Pop, I don’t really an answer right now, but yes. Technically, we could block that move from a territorial perspective.”
