In surprising news, 49ers third-year wide receiver Trent Taylor will be out indefinitely with a broken foot, per 49ers general manager John Lynch.
Taylor broke his foot in practice on Friday and underwent surgery. A screw was inserted into Taylor’s foot on Friday.
After a healthy offseason, Taylor has looked like one of the 49ers best players in training camp. Taylor has been one of the most targeted wide receivers by Jimmy Garoppolo throughout camp. He caught two touchdown passes from Garoppolo in the red zone portion of practice on Wednesday.
Taylor’s injury will cause a shake up in the 49ers heated wide receiver position battle. Taylor’s strong camp made him a lock to make the team, while other 49ers pass catchers have been inconsistent.
Veteran Jordan Matthews will now be in the mix with young players like Richie James, Deebo Sameul and Jalen Hurd for serious playing time.
