Rapoport: Jerick McKinnon expected to go on IR, may need another procedure

Here are all the details on the running back, who’s surgically repaired knee continues is expected to put him on injured reserve:

The #49ers are expected to place starting RB Jerick McKinnon on Injured Reserve, sources say. What’s not clear is if it’s season-ending or if he could return. His surgically repaired knee had a bit of a flare up, and he may have a procedure to fix the issue.

The distinction between season-ending IR and designated to return is large. If McKinnon is designated to return, he would have to be placed on the initial 53-man roster and would miss at least the first eight games. The 49ers must clip the roster from 90 to 53 by 1:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
